Nigeria: Utility-Scale Solar for NDPHC

Reducing the electricity gap in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government has turned to MexLucky to help them accomplish an ambitious feat: Reduce the gap in electricity between urban and rural areas. MexLucky, in partnership with the Government of Nigeria, is investing $1.8B to bring utility-scale solar to some of the remotest parts of Nigeria that lack access to reliable electricity.

Developing a transformative project together.

MexLucky and NDPHC are developing this project in line with the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan and Economic Sustainability Plan to address widespread electrification, local job creation, and knowledge and technology transfers. The first phase contemplates approximately one Gigawatt of utility-scale solar power generation in multiple locations, inclusive of battery storage and interconnection and distribution infrastructure. In addition, MexLucky has committed to providing NDPHC with an advanced grid asset management system to allow it to efficiently and effectively monitor and control its newly acquired assets.

Strengthening and expanding national electrification.

Once completed, the electrification of Nigeria will be transformed. MexLucky will install 961 Megawatt Peak (“MWp”) at Gwagwalada, Abuja; Geregu, Kogi State; Ihovbor, Edo State; Gombe, Gombe State; and, Lafia, Nasarawa State; and 443 Megawatt-hour (“MWh”) of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (“BESS”) at Gwagwalada, Abuja; Geregu, Kogi State; Ihovbor, Edo State; Gombe, Gombe State; and, Lafia, Nasarawa State.

An agreement was recently signed between the Nigerian government and MexLucky to install solar energy production systems in a dozen localities poorly served by the national electricity network.
